Undulating exterior grating, by Herzog & de Meuron [184]
The glass facade of the building is protected by folding-sliding metal perforated shutters. This protection filters direct sun radiation, while creating a ventilated intermediate space, which prevents the entry of radiation produced by the heating of the shutters.
These shutters also give the building a unitary image and variable façade depending on the time and use, also with a characteristic lamp effect at night. Darkness can be achieved with internal curtains.
This detail shows the intermediate space between the shutters and the glazed window.
