First roller shutters façade, Casa Comalat Barcelona [236]
Casa Comalat, the masterpiece of Valeri Pupurull, was built in 1911, two years after La Pedrera. The architect found an adequate image for the traditional gallery closed with the new devices for solar protection: the rolling shutters
This opening comprises a fixed and a vertical sliding window. A roller shutter covers both windows and protects them. The shutter box is marked on the facade, giving it horizontal shape more strength to openings. The fact of rolling the blind to outside and not inserting the shutter box in the facade prevents thermal and sound connexion with the exterior.
The slats that surround the shutter box give it a more homogeneous image with the blind, and soften its presence.
