Shaded balcony with fixed textile awnings [063]

The two office volumes Eiermann projected for Olivetti in Frankfort in 1972 have the same solution on their four sides: glass wall with walkways, and sun protection by inclined fixed awnings. Specificity in sun protection necessary in every direction is sacrificed to achieve the formal coherence of the four facades.

Sun protection is obtained with canvas awnings, normally associated with less representative buildings -houses, kiosks, ground floors of buildings ... – this element gives this group of offices an unusual look. The fact that aren’t adjustable ensures visual order of the facade.
