The sensitivity of a master of the modern movement, Eileen Gray [514]
The "Maison a bord de mer" built by Eileen Gray between 1926 and 1928 for Jean Badovici, wants to evoke marine images. The name E-1027 suggests the license plate of a boat. The railing stanchions, tarps strung between them and an old cork-life-ring complete the picture.
"(la terraza) es una continuación de la gran sala y la prolonga cuando las hojas de las ventanas están plegadas junto a los pilares. Se ha sustituido el plemento ciego (del antepecho) por uno de tela fácilmente desmontable que en invierno permite calentarse las piernas con los rayos del sol. La marquesina del techo se compone de cuatro telas independientes y puede resistir el más fuerte mistral; también permite disfrutar de una sombra fresca en el verano cuando el sol abrasa y en el invierno recibir toda la calidez del cielo al abrigo del viento." The horizontal awnings are slightly separated from the façade, leaving ventilated air space between them.
