Timber louvers on Barcelona Biomedical Research Park [367]

The building is completely covered by a sheet of fixed horizontal slats with a slight separation, and with rhythmic vertical cuts as if they were windows.

These slats get a percentage of solar protection, shading indistinctly terraces and interiors behind it. This percentage depends on the angle of incidence of sun rays, that’s why it blocks more in summer than in winter. But the fact is that as it cannot be graduated, it is not enough for summer and it is too much in winter, not allowing the application of solar heating. Also there is no possibility to avoid glare.

On the other hand, as we can see in the pictures, it does have a certain transparency: the proportion and distribution of perforations allow us to reconstruct almost the entire image of the beach of Barcelona.
