A huge deployé by H&dM [137]

The advantages of deployé to achieve solar protection, but allowing oriented views have been widely exploited on this building by Herzog and de Meuron.

Actually the construction technique has nothing to do with the original material. In this case it is built with large strips of metal sheet connected by fixing on a metal infrastructure.

This technique has allowed them to design the shape of protection adapting to functional and compositional criteria of each area of the façade, increase and reducing the size of the opening between strips. Even in a display of geometric control they have managed to produce a free curvature revolution surface to build a large central skylight.
